Spa Policies & Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear? Do I have to be naked?
Utah State Law requires that the massage therapist keep you draped throughout the session, uncovering only the area being worked on at the time. For most massage therapy treatments, the therapist will instruct you to undress to your comfort level and can work around whatever you decide. Keeping your undergarments on is acceptable, although it may affect the flow and continuity of the service. Please wear comfortable clothing (made of non-jean material) for all sessions.
What is the minimum age for massage at Healing Mountain?
Clients under 18 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign both the intake and minor release forms before the session.
We strive to honor the parent or guardian’s gender preference when assigning practitioners whenever possible. Children under 12 must keep their undergarments on throughout the massage. Infant massage is not offered, and massage for minors under 8 requires a physician referral.
What is customary for tipping? Can I tip students?
Students in the initial 100-hour clinical training may not accept tips. Students enrolled in the 100 Hour CE Course and Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) may receive gratuities.
I have a recent injury. Is it safe to get a massage?
Massage can support recovery from many muscle injuries, but safety depends on the type, timing, and severity of the injury. Consult your physician if you are under care, and notify the front desk when booking to ensure proper scheduling.
What’s the difference between a student, a 100 Hour CE student, or an LMT?
Students: All students in the 600-hour program complete two clinic courses totaling 100 hours of hands-on clinical training (50 hours per course). Students in these courses are under supervision and are not permitted to receive tips. Students are still in the learning process, so their pressure, technique, and understanding of anatomy and kinesiology may vary depending on their stage in the program. They are generally best suited for clients seeking a general, Swedish-style massage.
100 Hour CE Students: Students continuing in the 100 Hour CE Course have completed their initial clinical courses and may receive gratuities. They have more experience than students in the initial clinic courses and may offer advanced techniques, though they are not yet licensed. These students are suitable for clients seeking more detailed or specialized massage work within a supervised learning framework.
Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs): LMTs have completed their full education, passed the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), and met all state licensing requirements. In addition, LMTs have accrued significant hands-on experience, additional service hours, and may have completed continuing education, which provides them with a more advanced understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and therapeutic techniques. They are best suited for clients seeking detailed, targeted, or specialized massage treatments, and they may also receive gratuities.
What services do you offer? And how much do they cost?
We offer 50-, 80-, and 110-minute Swedish massages, as well as spa treatments like the Foot Spa and Salt & Honey Scrub. For a full menu and pricing, check out our spa menu.
What is the cancellation policy?
At Healing Mountain Massage School, we understand that unexpected emergencies can occur. Because last-minute cancellations are difficult to rebook, we kindly ask that all clients provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Clients will receive a reminder text 48 hours prior to their scheduled appointment. From this reminder, they can reschedule or cancel their service at no cost. Alternatively, clients may contact the front desk directly at least 24 hours prior to their service to reschedule or rebook without incurring any additional charges.
If notice is given less than 24 hours in advance and we are unable to fill your appointment, a charge of 100% of the service cost will apply. Our front desk staff will always make every effort to rebook the time slot. If your appointment is successfully rebooked, no charge will be applied.
Please note: This cancellation policy is designed to protect the scheduling and availability of our practitioners, students, and the clinic as a whole. When a client books an appointment, that time is reserved exclusively for them, and a practitioner (LMT or student) is scheduled to provide the service. If a client cancels with less than 24 hours’ notice, it is often impossible to fill the appointment, resulting in a loss of revenue for the school, a loss of income for the therapist, and a loss of valuable clinical hours for students.
Conversely, if a practitioner must cancel due to illness or emergency, the school assumes responsibility for the client’s appointment. In these cases, we will notify the client as soon as possible and reschedule their service at no additional cost. The policy does not “go both ways” because the client initiates and secures the booking, whereas the school manages staffing and is obligated to provide the service whenever possible.
Appointments can be canceled or rescheduled online or by contacting our front desk directly.
Should I avoid massage if I am pregnant?
Massage is safe during all stages of pregnancy when performed by trained practitioners. Our student practitioners and LMTs are trained in pregnancy massage techniques. Consult your healthcare provider first, especially for high-risk pregnancies.
What time should I arrive for my appointment? What if I'm late?
Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to allow time for check-in. If you arrive late, we will accommodate the remaining portion of your scheduled service whenever possible. However, if less than 25 minutes of service time remains, the session may not be provided, and clients are responsible for the full scheduled service cost.
What if I have special medical conditions?
If you require accommodations or treatments due to a medical condition, consult your physician prior to your massage and obtain a medical release to bring to your appointment. Please communicate your needs to our front desk at the time of booking so we can pair you with an appropriately skilled practitioner.
We encourage open discussion with your practitioner throughout your visit. Some medical conditions may prevent massage, which may result in a cancellation or rescheduling at no additional charge. This policy is designed to preserve the safety and well-being of all guests.
I can’t get a hold of the front desk; what do I do?
Please leave a voicemail, and we will return your call as soon as possible. Often, we cannot answer immediately because we are assisting other clients during check-in and check-out. You may also text the same line from which you received your appointment confirmation for a faster response.
